Supporting people who support communities throughout Northumberland

Welcome to the website of the Northumberland Community Development Company, known as NCDC.
The Company sets out to support people who support communities in Northumberland.
What do we mean by ‘Community Development’?
NCDC is committed to working within a nationally agreed definition of Community Development Work, which is based on the following values and practices:
Social Justice
Fairness
Environmental justice
Equality and anti-discrimination
Collective action
Working and learning together
Community development involves working with groups in communities to identify what they want in context of equity and fairness. Those communities include communities of:
locality (getting together with a focus on where we live and interact)
interest (getting together to influence issues and services we care about eg health)
identity (getting together around who we are to promote equality)
In Northumberland community development work goes on in a wide range of ways and places. NCDC wants to support people who are active in community development whether they are users of services, local volunteers, unpaid community leaders or professionals working in and with communities.
We also support groups and organisations to get established and develop.
